The shark-like Orient Kamasu is a distinctive dive watch that stands out from the crowd. It’s aggressive, pointed markers and handset helped push it into my best dive watches post, where it’s stayed ever since.
Like its reskin (the Mako III), the Kamasu is perfect for average wrist sizes, at 41.5mm, though it fits more like a 40.5mm, with nicely curved lugs and a short lug-to-lug length.
The case finishing is slightly above average for its price, though the real standout is the dial. When the Kamasu was released, it felt like the first time Orient’s design team had been set free, as they launched with a wide variety of experimental colors, my favorite being the green you can see in the attached image.
Powering the watch is an Orient in-house automatic movement, which I’ve found to be particularly accurate versus Miyota and Seiko (having tested a multitude of them). This was the first Orient (excluding Orient Star) diver to come kitted out with a sapphire crystal, so you’ll have no issues with scratches.
